Historical Cost Application for Major University

Situation

A major university in Atlanta wanted their construction project managers to record historical project cost data into a database system to better understand projected costs for new projects. Historically, each project manager developed project costs in spreadsheets.

Solution

Our team developed a system architecture that unifies the way projects are entered into a database using an application to collect project information and assist in the development of itemized project budgets based on Uniformat as the classification system for construction assemblies for each project. We used Microsoft’s Power Platform for developing the database, application, and reporting system.

Result

As project costs are entered into the database, this integrated information renders to an analytical reporting dashboard where project costs can be compared by year, construction type, project stage and building function. Since, project costs are itemized by Uniformat, costs are also compared across Uniformat level for comparison. For new projects, comparisons to existing projects and future projections can be made.
