Enabling information to be unlocked.

Projects require teams to collaborate with information. Connecting project information to enable decision making is at the core of what we do.

Life sciences cost analysis

Situation

A pioneering life sciences company constructs one of a kind facilities to bring new services and life saving products to the market. The budgeting and planning of these facilities has many unknown factors as the company brings their considerable, but diverse expertise to bear on these innovative solutions. The client seeks an improved planning process to reduce risk, define costs, and improve the certainty of operational success.

Solution

Our cost analysis services define costs for the array of systems, spaces, and assets that comprise these complex, cutting edge facilities. The process involves both an upstream and downstream integration of facility information and construction cost. This provides definitions of spaces, systems, and assets that are meaningful to the owner's users and planners, but are also traceable to the detail coordinated into payment application line items.

Result

The client uses this information to clarify internal requirements, accurately describe business case, scope, schedule, budget, and continually improve the yield of information harvested on projects. This speeds decision making, reduces misunderstandings, and enables continuous improvement for project guidance, life cycle resources, and end user requirements.

Capital project planning

Situation

An international, vertically integrated designer, manufacturer, and developer was experiencing coordination problems, cost overruns, inventory busts, and execution delays as they sought to integrate their innovative approach to their capital projects.

Solution

We mapped their existing processes, uncovered information gaps, and established standards to sustain the critical information exchanges that were necessary to advance coordination and address inefficiencies.

Result

New techniques and processes have resulted in federated information, enabling the team to communicate around a singular information exchange context. This eliminated efficiency barriers and delivered improved performance.

Virtual planning, design & construction

Situation

A major university was seeking the means to validate the program, schedule, and budget on a major capital project by advancing virtual planning, design, and construction capabilities.

Solution

We partnered with a major design build and technology firm to map processes and provide project execution guidance. This enabled the design and construction consultants to collaborate and accurately articulate design intent. We provided dashboards enabled by building model information to analyse scope, schedule, and cost.

Result

We facilitated project execution planning, developed the project’s data dictionary, reported on model-based programmatic scenarios, cost analysis, and schedule validation. This project achieved stakeholder consensus for the virtual planning, design and construction approach.

Supply chain

Situation

A major retailer of construction and casual apparel was seeking a third-party logistics solution to an upcoming capacity constraint as they broadened their product lines and distribution channels. While their core capabilities were highly efficient, they needed improved operational flexibility to grow the business.

Solution

We partnered with their technology provider and executed an analysis to better understand the business segmentation and select the business units that best leveraged their current distribution capabilities. This enabled their growth strategy to determine the most rapidly deployable and cost effective solution. We then schematically designed the facility, operational model, and estimated the capital costs to implement the solution, enabling a rapid and informed negotiation with the selected provider.

Result

The retailer attained an on schedule and within budget implementation for this urgent and essential change to their supply chain. It was accompanied by defined initiatives to improve operational planning and forecasting that arose as a threat to success during the strategy development and implementation planning.

Asset handover

Situation

A rapidly expanding pharmaceutical firm realized that their asset handover process was not standardized. Asset names and locations were random, only correlating to project drawings, not translatable to a portfolio-wide understanding.

Solution

We listened to the client's experts and provided an immediately implementable resolution process with requirements to guide designers and constructors in producing standardized asset handover.

Result

This process was first implemented on a critical project with over 45 mechanical, plumbing, and process systems, fulfilling information needs for operations, finance, compliance and maintenance teams.
